A contractor who said he was with DaVinci Renovations is being used by our PM for small project work in Edmonton area. Has anyone heard of them or know anything about them? Was looking for reviews on them but cannot find them on line (& PM won’t share info about them i.e. it’s confidential contract info). Thks.

    Suggestions:

    1) Ask your board if they performed any checks of references. They are accountable for making decisions like this. Respect that some matters in business are always confidential.

    2) Check with the Better Business Bureau to see what the company record is.

    3) in the Edmonton area, check out the website for Canadian Condominium Institute (CCI) – North Alberta and see if the contractor is a member: https://www.ccinorthalberta.com/

Most progressive/responsible companies working on condos are members of CCI or COF or both.

Appreciate the reply. 1) Board and PM both silent so far – but will give it another try and re: 2) & 3) nothing was showing for DaVinci Renovations on either CCI, BBB or on line at all. Was hoping by reaching out to this Forum someone might have heard of them over the years. If PM using them for Common Property Maintenance one would expect in 2022 a company would have web presence somewhere. Thank you.

Still have a mystery… Tried a WCB search, as advised by other source, & was free to try ourselves to obtain a Clearance Letter. A Sturgeon County business on WCB search seemed most likely to be the “DV Renovations” here in Edm area, the contractor that the PMgr brought around to our home on Sept 26/22 for the initial on site response to our June 8/22 request for Maintenance.

That link brought up another company name altogether -Glenora Homes- so was still a bit of a mystery. I followed up with WCB in person today(couple questions for a helpful WCB agent) & we did obtain a GH clearance letter. I called GH & a helpful gentleman said they are definitely not “DV Renos”. So it’s still not for sure, in actuality, if this so-called “DV Renos” has WCB clearance. The COI is not being made available either.

Sure would be nice if our Board would just provide said info for Owners. From everything I can determine in legislation & our Bylaws the Board is ultimately supposed to ensure a PMgr has everything in order & is doing their job. Or in this instance is PMgr totally the responsible party and the Board absolved of all responsibility to Owners? It just does not seem reasonable & prudent for a Board not to inform Owners so everyone knows for SURE qualified contractors are working on our $several hundred K homes 🏡

In my experience, a key responsibility of a board/condominium manager is to ensure maintenance is done in a timely and effective way. That requires checking of references by them.

I think the board is within their rights to not provide some of this information, some of which is confidential.

However, if the contractor fails to do the work well, the condominium Board of Directors is accountable.

Sometimes we have to trust the board, even though that can be difficult in some circumstances.

Being a board member is a lot of responsibility and not always an easy task.

Thank you. We finally have an indication from the Board that the PMgr told the Board that the contractor has WCB & COI.
