Beefs and Bouquets Meeting
Earlier this year, in advance of our AGM, our condo held its first “Beefs and Bouquets” meeting. Our condo consists of 34 units. Attendees were invited to provide positive and negative comments about living in our building; provide suggestions for improvements, or anything. This was very informal. Tenants were invited as well, and some of those individuals brought forward some excellent suggestions.
The Board had time to digest some of the suggestions and concerns at an intervening Board meeting. By the time we had our AGM, some six weeks later, the Board was pretty much prepped for any topics that came up and we provided feedback with the topics that were raised at the Beefs and Bouquets meeting, and asked for further suggestions in the more formal environment of the AGM.
Result: a very successful AGM; improved dialogue between Board and residents. (Of course, there’s no guarantee that the same owners attend both, so there can still be an element of surprise, but this was definitely mitigated.)
We definitely will make this an annual event.

Ingrid, thanks for a good idea!
Waay back before Covid-19 was even thought of, we started monthly coffee evenings in the common lounge to bring residents together socially; we wore nametags with first name and Apartment number. As board President at the time of initiating the evenings nearly 20 years ago, I received many positive and negative comments. The evenings have re-started, but seem much smaller.
