I post this for awareness. I recently heard about thieves getting into the Mircom panel at condo in Calgary (all Mircom panels come with same generic panel key?) and by getting into panel they can hookup laptop and program in a new access code, allowing them trouble free access into condo parkade where they like to steal catalytic converters.

I’m looking into alternative locks for our panels!

Thanks for sharing. A lock! This is how our condo addressed the issue.

Our entryphone panels have been ‘hardened’ by installing steel shields to prevent access, as Marlene describes.

The door latches have also been hardened to prevent forced entry.

However, the biggest problem seems to be with outsiders following a resident in while the door is open for the resident or opened remotely by an owner letting a delivery or visitor in. We also have cameras and video recordings showing people in the entrances so there can be identification, albeit after the fact. Good quality video often helps the police see who the (well-known-to-them) visitor was.
