    Interesting question, Christine. I suggest you bring it forward for our next “Ask a Lawyer” CondoChat with Hugh Willis scheduled for April 12. I would love to hear the answer to what happens when someone with a significant proxy count departs. (I know Hugh is probably one of the lawyers you reference. 😊. We respect him, and it would be interesting to hear his perspective).

    I have always promoted the concept of an independent chair for potentially controversial meetings. Everyone is interested in the session being chaired fairly and allowing all parties to be heard. That does not mean that a lawyer is required, which is generally more expensive. Professional facilitators may be more effective.

    A personal belief is that we worry too much about the law, which prescribes minimum standards. Alternatively, best practices frequently exceed the law and better meet owners’ needs.
