Terry, like your correspondent, we are concerned about non-toxic remedies to life. Our balconies were epoxy-repaired several years ago, following some 20 years of decay – possibly more, depending on our complex’s previous developers and owners. The time to apply and cure our balcony epoxy coatings was short. We keep our balcony door closed, except for ventilation in summer. The surface is covered with porous plastic tiles (available from IKEA) to ensure ventilation and drainage. We have experienced no problems over the 16 years we have lived in this apartment. Perhaps your correspondent is too concerned? Once the epoxy has ‘set’, there should be no future problems (and the balcony is protected from decay, mould and rot).
