With over 33 years of experience specializing in vehicle extrication and technical rescue, Randy is known for advancing firefighter safety through innovation, hands-on instruction, and knowledge-sharing.
He is the Founder and Chair of the Alberta Vehicle Extrication Association (AVEA), a nonprofit dedicated to training and equipping responders across Western Canada. Under his leadership, AVEA has grown into a respected authority on modern extrication techniques, particularly as automotive technologies evolve.
An international TERC judge, contributor to leading fire service publications, and creator of the acclaimed Schmitz Mittz gloves, Randy is passionate about protecting those who serve on the front lines.
