As electric vehicles (EVs) become increasingly prevalent, first responders face new challenges in fire suppression and rescue operations. In this comprehensive session, Captain Randy Schmitz—veteran firefighter, international instructor, and founder of AVEA—offers an in-depth look at the complexities of EV fires.

Drawing from his extensive experience and his work through CFD and AVEA Randy founded and is the president of JRSS Services Ltd., a company specializing in safety training and consulting, Randy delves into the science behind lithium-ion battery failures, indicators of thermal runaway, and effective tactical response strategies. Attendees will gain critical insights into hazard identification, isolation protocols, suppression techniques, and post-incident considerations, including the risk of reignition, or is there enough science for these growing concerns and questions.

This session is essential for emergency personnel, safety officers, and industry professionals seeking to enhance their preparedness for the unique risks associated with EV incidents
